How OpsGuru Modernized Cloud Operations at Scale

Overview

OpsGuru, an AWS Premier Tier Services Partner, accelerates digital transformation for organizations ready to move faster, build smarter, and operate more efficiently in the cloud. Combining deep technical expertise with cutting-edge AI and generative AI capabilities, OpsGuru helps clients modernize applications, unlock the value of their data, and build cloud-native solutions that scale.

As North America’s leading AWS Premier Tier Services Partner, OpsGuru takes on the complexity of the cloud so its customers can focus on what matters, driving innovation and staying ahead in an AI-driven world. Its services portfolio includes Data and AI services; Migration and Modernization; Cloud-Native Development and Managed Cloud Operation, a 24×7 offering that proactively operates and optimizes cloud environments on customers’ behalf.

As OpsGuru expanded its Managed Cloud Operations, the team sought a more scalable way to onboard customers, perform AWS Well-Architected Framework Reviews (WAFRs), and continuously optimize cloud environments without increasing operational overhead.

Challenge | Building a Centralized Operations Hub

Before implementing MontyCloud, OpsGuru’s assessment and onboarding processes were highly manual and timeintensive. To perform WAFRs, engineers relied on a combination of Prowler scans, AWS-native tools, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Word documents to gather findings, map remediation items, and build customer reports.

“Everything required manual effort,” explained Paul Montaigne, VP of Product Strategy and Cloud Operations at OpsGuru. “We had wrappers around logging into management accounts, spinning up Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances to run Prowler, then manually tying findings back to the five pillars of the AWS Well-Architected Framework.” This approach created operational bottlenecks as the managed services practice scaled.

Assessments often took 2–3 days of engineering time to complete, limiting how quickly OpsGuru could onboard customers and deliver ongoing optimization reviews. The team also lacked a centralized operational view across customer environments, making it difficult to consistently identify cost optimization opportunities, remediation priorities, and long-term operational trends.

“Scaling was hard,” shared Steve Lee, Reliability Engineering Architect at OpsGuru. “Prowler was valuable, but it only covered part of the picture. There was still a lot of manual effort required to connect everything together.”

Solution | Automating CloudOps with MontyCloud and AI

By implementing MontyCloud, OpsGuru transformed how it delivers assessments, onboarding, and ongoing CloudOps services across customer environments. MontyCloud centralized cloud visibility into a single operational platform, giving the team immediate access to cost optimization insights, security findings, remediation opportunities, and AWS Well-Architected recommendations across accounts. Instead of manually stitching together assessment data from multiple tools, OpsGuru can now onboard cloud accounts in minutes and generate WAFRs through a streamlined, automated workflow.

“MontyCloud does all the mapping for us,” Paul explained. “Findings, remediation tracking, cost optimization, overall account visibility. It’s all there in one place.” This dramatically simplified customer collaboration during WAFRs and operational reviews.

Rather than relying on lengthy screen-sharing sessions and fragmented reporting, OpsGuru can now provide customers with a centralized, holistic view of their environments, helping build trust and alignment faster. The platform is also expanding beyond assessments into ongoing day-2 operations. OpsGuru is rolling out MontyCloud capabilities to managed services customers for ongoing cost optimization, automation, and operational visibility, including use cases such as scheduled instance management and continuous environment monitoring.

“WAFRs became much easier to scale,” shared Steve. “The UI is really straightforward, and customers immediately understand what actions need to be taken.”

Results | Faster Assessments, Better Renewals, and More Scalable CloudOps

With MontyCloud, OpsGuru significantly reduced the operational overhead associated with cloud onboarding and WAFRs. Customer onboarding and cloud account connections now take approximately 10 minutes, while assessment workflows that previously required 2–3 days of engineering effort can now be completed in hours instead of days.

  • 40-50% reduction in overall WAFR delivery time
  • Up to 60–70% engineering time savings on assessments
  • Faster onboarding and time-to-value for managed services customers

The operational improvements also created downstream business value.

Instead of treating WAFRs as one-time engagements, OpsGuru now uses assessments throughout the customer lifecycle, such as during onboarding, mid-engagement reviews, and renewal cycles, helping customers continuously improve their environments over time. This ongoing assessment model has strengthened customer relationships while supporting managed services renewals and long-term account growth.

“If we didn’t have MontyCloud, it would have been hard to onboard customers effectively,” the team shared. “It frees up engineering hours so our teams can focus on higher-value, revenue-generating work.”

Looking ahead, OpsGuru plans to continue expanding its use of MontyCloud across managed services operations, AWS Partner Revenue Measurement (PRM), MAP tagging initiatives, and ongoing customer optimization programs. Together, OpsGuru and MontyCloud are helping organizations modernize cloud operations while building a more scalable, proactive model for managed services delivery.

FAQS

Q: What does managed cloud operations at scale mean for MSPs? A: Managed cloud operations at scale means an MSP can onboard new customers, run assessments, and continuously optimize cloud environments across a large and growing customer base without proportionally increasing engineering headcount or manual effort. OpsGuru achieved this by centralizing cloud visibility and automating WAFR workflows through MontyCloud, reducing assessment time by 40 to 50% and engineering effort by up to 70%.

Q: How long does a WAFR take with automation? A: With MontyCloud’s automated WAFR workflow, OpsGuru reduced assessment delivery time by 40 to 50%. Assessments that previously required 2 to 3 days of manual engineering effort, including Prowler scans, spreadsheet mapping, and report building, now complete in hours without custom scripting or multiple disconnected tools.

Q: How can MSPs use WAFRs to improve managed services renewals? A: By automating WAFRs and running them at key points in the customer lifecycle, including onboarding, mid-engagement, and renewal cycles, MSPs can continuously demonstrate value and surface new optimization opportunities. OpsGuru uses MontyCloud assessments as an ongoing customer success tool, which has strengthened relationships and supported managed services renewals.

Q: What is AWS cloud operations automation? A: AWS cloud operations automation is the use of a platform to automatically manage governance, security, cost optimization, compliance, and remediation across AWS environments without manual scripts or disconnected tools. MontyCloud achieves this through an agentless, event-driven architecture that integrates with AWS-native services including AWS Config, AWS Security Hub, and Amazon EventBridge.

Q: How fast can MSPs onboard new customers with MontyCloud? A: OpsGuru onboards new cloud accounts and establishes full operational visibility in approximately 10 minutes using MontyCloud. This replaces a previously manual process that required multi-hour engineering effort and fragmented tooling before customers could receive their first assessment or operational report.
