This post was written by Vicky Liu, who was an intern at MontyCloud during Spring 2025.
When I joined MontyCloud as a Sales Development Intern, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a fast-growing cloud startup. What I found was a team that balances big ambitions with genuine support and where interns are trusted to contribute from day one. From shadowing global sales calls to collaborating on campaigns, every day brought something new to learn and the chance to make an impact.
For those who aren’t familiar, MontyCloud is the no-code autonomous CloudOps platform, on a mission to make complex cloud operations simple, scalable, and secure. MontyCloud helps Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and IT teams reduce complexity, optimize costs, enforce guardrails, and operate AWS environments with confidence. From policy-driven automation to compliance checks and cost optimization, MontyCloud gives organizations the clarity and control they need to accelerate their cloud journey.
So if you’re curious about what it’s like to intern at a cloud startup—or considering applying to MontyCloud—this post is for you.

🧭 The Internship Experience
MontyCloud doesn’t have a traditional office. Most days, I worked remotely. But when the team flew into Seattle for AWS PartnerEquip, I finally got to meet everyone in person. We went to happy hours, shared stories, and brainstormed sales and marketing strategies for upcoming events. It was the perfect blend of startup hustle and genuine connection.
💡 Learning to Sell by Doing
As a Sales Development Intern, I spent my first few weeks working through the onboarding plan and shadowing calls across the US, UK, India, Mexico, and Colombia with the global account executives. Each conversation taught me something new about how sales is really about people.
I quickly realized that what resonates in one region might not work in another. It wasn’t about delivering a perfect script. It was about understanding, asking thoughtful questions, and noticing the things that weren’t being said.
From the very beginning, I was given real responsibilities. I wasn’t just there to observe. I was encouraged to contribute my honest opinions. I helped build lead lists for internal marketing campaigns, evaluated sales tools, and supported live events. Every project was an opportunity to take initiative and bring my ideas forward.
🤝 The Company Culture That Made It All Work
What made the biggest difference during my internship was the team. Even though we worked remotely, the culture was strong. Everyone was approachable, collaborative, and genuinely supportive. I was never treated like “just an intern.” Instead, I was encouraged to contribute, ask questions, and grow.
One of my favorite memories was during my birthday week when a few members of the GTM team were in Seattle. My mentor, Matt, organized a boat outing on Lake Washington. We laughed, shared stories, and talked about everything from sales to life. It was the perfect example of how MontyCloud blends hard work with genuine connection. Matt also made time for weekly check-ins, not just to review tasks but to check in on me personally. That kind of mentorship made me feel like I truly belonged.

🎯 Tips for Future Interns
- Get certified early. The AWS Cloud Practitioner exam gave me the confidence to understand the technical jargon and contribute meaningfully.
- Ask to shadow everything. You’ll learn more from real conversations than from any training doc.
- Engage with your team. Even remotely, culture is what you make of it.
- Take initiative. Your ideas matter—don’t be afraid to share them.
